The two-time winner of the Indianapolis 500 – Helio Castroneves – was indicted Thursday for charges of tax evasion. The Brazilian driver was indicted along with a relative of his and an Ohio attorney.

Castroneves who owns a mansion in Coral Gables has been charged with failing to pay close to $5 million in taxes that were accrued over a four year period. His sister – Kali – and his lawyer – Alan Miller – have been accused of assisting him in the tax evasion scheme. Authorities expect the defendants to surrender to the police and to appear in court Friday morning.

The 33 year old Team Penske driver has won the Indianapolis 500 both in 2001 and 2002. This made him the fifth man to achieve the feat two years in a row. In 2003 he finished second to his teammate and fellow countrman Gil de Ferran.
