Jimmie Johnson had another victory at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He won just in time because one of his tires decided to explode near the finish line. Over the weekend NASCAR was miffed when one of its best events was derailed due to tire problems.

Goodyear’s product was unable to withstand driving 10 or more laps at a time -which caused chaos during the Brickyard 400. The whole thing ended when Johnson passed Carl Edwards during the end of a seven lap run to finish.

“Every lap I was concerned about it. Every corner, for that matter,” Johnson said. Goodyear and NASCAR were left to explain why the race became a debacle. The tire issue cropped up early Saturday, when drivers learned during the first practice they could only last anywhere from three to 10 laps before the rubber wore down to the cords.

“We came with the best tire we had for the conditions and we fell short,” said Greg Stucker, director of race tire sales for Goodyear. There were 11 yellow flags, and NASCAR threw six competition cautions to force teams to pit and change their tires.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. felt that the event was not a total disaster, “The truth of the deal is that was the best show we could put on today,” he said. “It’s all we could do aside from loading up and going home and not running at all.”

Scott Dixon from New Zealand finished first at the 92nd Indianapolis 500 at 1.75 seconds ahead of Vitor Meira. Yet, even though Dixon took the win many fans kept their concentration on Danica Patrick who worked hard to try to make history as the first woman winner at the Brickyard.

Last month she won in Japan. Yet, it didn’t seem to be her night to win. She was tagged on her left rear tire by Team Penske’s Ryan Briscoe while she was coming out of the pits. This small bit of contact spun her out of control and caused serious damage to her rear axle.

Needless to say she was quite angry and even tried storming over to the Briscoe’s pit row before she was stopped by a track security officer.

The Turkish Grand Prix was definitely one for the books and the entire honor goes to Ferrari. A week earlier Ferrari showed off in the Spanish Grand Prix when they finished one-two and was dominating the podium stand. Felipe Massa had definitley showed some improvement over the last three races.

Yet, he was still passed by McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton during the middle of the race. Hamilton was very impressive and no one has ever seen him do so well in all of his career.B but his team’s strategy of a three-pit race ultimately lost him the race. Whereas Massa’s two-pit strategy gave him enough lead time to hold off Hamilton. Third place was earned by Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen, who will take the points to pad his slim points lead over teammate Massa and Hamilton.

Those of you who are looking for a little more exciting during the 2009 Formula One season will be happy to know that you’re wish may come true; although not necessarily in the way that you were hoping. The FIA told Formula One that they only way drivers can compete is if they are racing in hybrids. This new rule will be put into effect in order to comply with the standards that have been set up by the Kinetic Energy Recovery System.

Formula One stated that it will take until 2013 before all of the changes from the new system to take effect – but it will start with the 2009 season. Teams all across the board have been caught off guard by this new rule. Ferrari was one of the first to speak out. Piero Ferrari – son of Enzo and Vice President of Ferrari – was noticeably angry by the change and is afraid that they will lose thousands of dollars trying to create new engines for their team.

Yet, not all on the Ferrari team feel that this change is negative. Michael Schumacher is looking forward to the new challenger that has been placed in front of them and said that the environment is not the only thing that will benefit from it – but also the drivers.

Kurt Thomas Busch is a professional race car driver. He drives #2 Miller Lite Dodge in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and he races in the Nationwide Series part time in the #12 Penske Truck Rental Dodge. Both he and his older brother – Kyle Busch – are professional drivers and have even gone up against each other on several different occasions.

In 2004, Busch finished 8 points ahead of Jimmie Johnson to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship in the first ever season using the “Chase for the Cup” points format. At the time, he drove the #97 Sharpie/Irwin Industrial Tools Ford for Roush Racing. Busch departed Roush at the end of 2005, moving to Penske Racing and replacing the retiring Rusty Wallace in the No. 2 Miller Lite sponsored Dodge Charger. With a 2006 win in the Busch Series Busch became one of only 16 drivers with a win in all three of NASCAR’s top divisions (Sprint Cup, Nationwide, and Craftsman Truck Series).

Busch is a second-generation NASCAR driver.[citation needed] He was the runner-up finisher in the closest finish in NASCAR history at Darlington Raceway on March 16, 2003. After an exciting and near-explosive two-lap side-by-side battle with Ricky Craven around the tight and tricky 1.366-mile track, Craven crossed the finish line only 0.002 seconds ahead of Busch in the photo-finish. Busch was a competitor in the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series and gained his first national exposure while competing against Ron Hornaday, Matt Crafton, Greg Biffle, Chris Trickle, and Kevin Harvick among others in the 1998 Winter Heat Series at Tucson Raceway Park.

Busch earned his big break after a tragedy. Chris Trickle was shot in a mysterious shooting (Trickle would die of the injuries over a year later and to this day the murderer has never been found), and the Star Nursery team looked for a new driver to replace Trickle for the #70 team. Busch inherited the ride for the team and won the 1998 AutoZone Elite Division Southwest Series Rookie of the Year. He followed up by winning the series championship in 1999.

That led to a tryout in a Roush Racing “Gong Show”, which he won and earned a Craftsman Truck Series ride. He caused controversy when Jack Roush invited him to race in the Winston Cup Series, without any experience from the Busch Grand National Series, while overlooking Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch’s more experienced teammate.

Busch began racing on the Winston Cup circuit in 2000, at the age of 22. He replaced Chad Little in the #97 John Deere Ford. His first race in the Winston Cup Series was in Dover in September 2000, 1 month after his 21st birthday. He drove in 7 races, with no wins, top 5’s, or top 10’s, and finished 48th in the standings that year, with Jeff Hammond as crew chief.

Busch ran for rookie of the year honors in 2001, starting 35 of 36 races with no wins, although he scored three top fives and six top tens that year. Kurt finished with a #27 ranking, was the runner-up Rookie of the Year, earned more than $2 million in winnings. He won the pole at the Southern 500, finished third at the Talladega 500 and fifth at the Brickyard 400. He also won his first pole position for the Mountain Dew Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.

Jacques Villeneuve will be making his way back next week as F1 moves to Bahrain. He will be racing once again. Unfortuantely though he will not be competing in the Grand Prix. Instead he will be racing a stock car in the Speedcar Series race – which is to help support the main event.

We initially brought you news of the Speedcar Series when fellow Francophone former F1 driver Jean Alesi signed on to headline the series, which campaigns stock cars of all things at events across Asia. Although several retired F1 drivers compete in the series, Villeneuve is the only former world champion to line up.

Following the Bahrain event, JV will join the Speedcar grid the following week for the season finale in Dubai. The Canadian driver has fought hard to stay racing since retiring from Formula One, driving for Peugeot at Le Mans while trying his darnedest to break into NASCAR.

We have seen many famous people try to donate their time to charity in order to raise money for who truly need it. This one though has to be the best and possibly most painful one that we have ever heard. Tony Stewart encouraged people to donate and raise $100,000 to charity. If they could reach this amount he would do the unthinkable – wax his famously hairy back.

Unfortunately for Stewart the charity was able to raise $125,000 for the Victory Junction Gang Camp. DeLana & Kevin Harvick, and national motorsports correspondent Ford Martin joined Tony and Matt Yocum at an “undisclosed location” for a rip-roaring good time.

There was no shortage of donations to hear Tony suffer throughout the pain and indignity of having his famously-furry back waxed live on the air. It remains to be seen if the procedure will improve race times for the sleeker and more-aero Smoke.

Those who follow the McLaren F1 team are all too familiar with the name – Ron Dennis. He has been the team’s faithful manager since the 1980’s and has done a successful job of leading them to many victories. Yet, it seems lately that he has been losing his grip on things and Mercedes-Benz has taken notice of this as well. According to recent rumors Dennis is being fired because of the way that he handled the spy scandal and because he was unsuccessful at obtaining the championship.

It looks like Deputy Martin Whitmarsh will be replacing Dennis. Again these rumors have not been confirmed – but we should be able to confirm everything and get all of the details within the next week or two.

Richard Lee Petty was born on July 2nd, 1937 in his hometown Level Cross, North Carolina. He became a NASCAR legend and racing champion and is well known for his achievements. He has become a well known and renowned former driver for the NASCAR Winston Cup Series and has won the NASCAR Championship seven times. The only other person to accomplish this has been Dale Earnhardt.

He has won over 200 races during his entire career and has received Most Popular Driver award on several occasions. Petty is a second generation driver. His father, Lee Petty, won the first Daytona 500 in 1959 and was also a NASCAR champion. Richard’s son, Kyle Petty, is also a well-known NASCAR driver. Tragically, Richard’s grandson, Adam Petty, was killed in an accident at New Hampshire International Speedway on May 12, 2000.

Richard Petty began his NASCAR career on July 18, 1958. His first race was in Toronto, Canada, and he finished 17th in an Oldsmobile. In 1959, Richard was named NASCAR Rookie of the Year, after he produced 9 top 10 finishes, including six Top 5 finishes. Throughout his career he awed fans and fellow drivers with his skills and his ability to take the lead and win the race.

In 1992, Richard Petty retired from NASCAR, but not before he had two last great moments. In the first one, he led the Firecracker 400 for the first five laps (after qualifying 2nd) before he dropped out on lap 84 due to fatigue.

The second was in his final race at season finale in Atlanta. Petty’s career was honored when he paced the field on a pace lap. Petty raced for the only time against Jeff Gordon, who was making his first Winston Cup start. The 1992 championship was decided by 10 points in the slimmest margin in NASCAR history (until the new “Chase for the Cup” was introduced). Second place finisher the late Alan Kulwicki won the championship by leading the most laps. The resulting 10-point swing in points proved to be the difference.
